According to a study by Northwestern University, “enclothed cognition” is “the systematic influence that clothes have on the wearer’s psychological processes”. In the study, participants wore “doctor’s lab coats” which made them more careful and attentive (than those in “painter’s smocks”) while performing a task. So basically, what you wear affects how you think and behave.

By wearing something with positive association you will be more inclined to have positive thoughts or actions. In terms of exercising, wearing the right clothes will determine how you feel about yourself when you work out. Happy-almost-Valentine’s Day!

Treat Your Heart Like It’s Your Best Friend… Special!

mochiredFebruary 1, 2013 was National Wear Red Day, marking The American Heart Association’s 10 year anniversary fight against the no. 1 killer in women: heart disease.

Only 1 in 5 women believe that heart disease is their greatest health threat, thinking that breast cancer is a bigger threat. However, 1 in 31 American women die every year from breast cancer while 1 in 3 die from heart disease. That is about 1 death every minute.

The heart is red, a color that is powerful as well as stylish. That’s why AHA dedicates February as the month to Go Red – spreading both awareness and prevention tactics of heart disease to our moms, sisters, friends, family, teachers, coworkers, and neighbors.

The MoChi Fitness family is always looking for ways to help others live a healthy life and Going Red is a great way to do that!

Keeping Up Your New Year’s Fitness Resolutions

Did you know that, according to the University of Scranton Journal of Psychology, the #1 new year resolution this year is to “lose weight”?

As ideal as that is, here at MoChi Fitness we’d like losing unwanted weight to be a benefit that comes along with the real new year’s resolution: staying fit and being healthy. By shifting your focus from a goal that can possibly let you down (not losing pounds as easily or as fast as you’d like) to a goal that will change your entire lifestyle (staying in shape and eating healthy), you will undoubtedly succeed both resolutions by the end of the year!

To work towards and keep up your fitness resolutions, practice the following habits:

  1. Break down your resolution
    • Some resolutions take a lot of time and effort. To avoid being overwhelmed or giving up, break down the resolution by setting short-term goals. If you plan to “stay in shape and eat healthy”, start with a three-month period in which you commit yourself to not going out to eat as much and to start attending a local gym 1-2 times a week. From there, you can move onto the next three months with an even stronger commitment.
  2. Surround yourself with support
    • By putting your goals out there with your friends and family, you will have a support system to help you stick to the plan. Someone may even have the same goals as you, which will make achieving those goals 10x more fun and easy to do together. Workout buddies are always great and needed!
  3. Be grateful and have an open mind
    • If you find yourself frustrated, take a step back, put things into perspective, and choose to be grateful for all the things you have. Things could be worse but they aren’t. By letting yourself be aware of it, you will have a better sense of your reality and the goals you’re working towards. Avoid the negative replays from past failures and negative thoughts. By keeping an open mind, you allow yourself to be guided towards a positive perception of yourself and, ultimately, a positive outcome like achieving your resolutions.

Tips to Gift
